Jordan & Natasha

Newport, Kentucky

A few years ago I walked into a classroom at the University of Kentucky as the instructor. It was my first year teaching and one of the amazing students I met that semester was Jordan. He was kind, funny, and we shared a love for band! Flash forward a few years later and I received an email from him letting me know he had found the girl of his dreams and he was interested in me photographing the big day!!!

I am always excited when my couples choose a first look for a million reasons. But, I was especially excited for the first look between Natasha and Jordan because I knew it would be extra sweet. They both were just so pumped to see each other! Their emotional first look was followed by a quick portrait session, group photos, and then on to the wedding!

They decided to get married in the Newport Aquarium and let me tell you how PERFECT this venue was for them! They both love scuba diving so that is the first big win. Next up, they wanted the feel of a destination wedding. Take a look at these photos. They totally nailed that goal!! And finally, they just wanted to enjoy the day! This venue offered guests a whimsical night and came with one of the best wedding day coordinators I have ever worked with!

Right before these two were about the head into the ceremony, I noticed the time of day and realized that is was sunset time. I often will ask the couple if they would like to sneak away for a few moments to snag sunset photos and some people say yes and some people feel like we have gotten all the portraits they need. When I first asked Natasha, I could tell she was excited to get to her reception with Jordan and seemed to be leaning away from sunset photos. One of her bridesmaids quickly shared a story about feeling that she had no photos from her wedding day and while it was not the intention, this story totally changed Natasha’s mind about sunset photos. So away we went!! Ten minutes was all we needed to capture some epic sunset magic in front of the Ohio River.

Nick and I ate dinner with the penguins, had a chat with a grouper named Brutus, and enjoyed every moment of this nautical nuptial!

Jordan and Natasha, you have two of the kindest hearts I have come across in a long time. I am so happy that you found each other and can’t wait to see all the adventures you will go on!
